VMware Explore 2023 Las Vegas – Day 2 – General Session

Day 2 started with the General Session. This is the most important day of the event. In the general session, VMware summarizes the work done over the past year, announces innovations and presents the current approach to the multi-cloud world. As a blogger pass holder, I had early access to the Main Stage, in front of the audience, with seating in the Press & Analyst area.

The general session at VMware Explore 2023 Las Vegas focused on innovative technology for businesses. Important speakers, such as VMware CEO Raghu Raghuram and President Sumit Dhawan, talked about how VMware and its partners are helping companies create and use AI models. They also talked about dealing with challenges like risk and cost. The event highlighted a smart way of using the cloud to make the most of generative AI and use data in different situations.

For the first time, General Session was broadcasted live, here you can watch the replay .

Announcements

VMware vSAN Max, driven by the vSAN Express Storage Architecture. This innovative addition to the vSAN lineup brings petabyte-scale disaggregated storage to vSphere. Through its fresh approach to storage deployment, vSAN Max empowers customers to flexibly expand storage capacity while decoupling it from computing resources. This enables the deployment of unified block, file, and partner-based object storage, optimizing resource usage and ultimately reducing total cost of ownership.

VMware NSX+, a comprehensive cloud-native service that enables networking, security, and operations teams to conveniently access and manage VMware NSX services through a unified cloud interface, spanning both private and public cloud environments.

VMware continues to underline its dedication to innovation with the introduction of revolutionary improvements to VMware Cloud DR and VMware Ransomware Recovery.

VMware Edge Cloud Orchestrator builds on VMware’s strong heritage of changing the world through software. It’s part of a revolution at the software-defined edge, which has three key features: Right-sized infrastructure, pull-based orchestration, and network programmability. It will allow enterprises to scale massively and with security, deploy the smallest viable stack, and provision with simplicity and a zero-touch approach.

VMware Tanzu Application Platform customizes the developer experience and streamlines app delivery. Today, VMware is announcing Tanzu Application Platform now combines new innovations for platform engineering and operations with the existing capabilities of Tanzu for Kubernetes Operations to help companies deliver a world-class internal platform.

Autonomous workspace is a concept (not an individual product) that is the future of end-user computing. It means going beyond creating a unified workspace with basic automations, to analyzing huge amounts of data with AI and machine learning, to drive more advanced, context aware automations. This leads to a workspace that can be considered self-configuring, self-healing, and self-securing.

VMware Private AI, an architectural strategy designed to facilitate AI services while upholding data privacy and corporate control. This approach offers the freedom to select between open-source and commercial AI solutions, ensuring rapid implementation, integrated security, and efficient management. With VMware Private AI, your environment gains the versatility to deploy an array of AI solutions, encompassing NVIDIA AI Software, repositories from the open-source community, and offerings from independent software vendors.

VMware Intelligent Assist is a suite of generative AI-driven solutions, trained using VMware’s exclusive data. These innovations are designed to streamline and automate various facets of enterprise IT within the complexities of a multi-cloud landscape. The features of Intelligent Assist seamlessly extend the existing investments in VMware Cross-Cloud Services, all while being built upon the foundation of VMware Private AI.

I think the announcements from VMware Explore 2023 in Las Vegas seem quite impressive. They’ve introduced innovative solutions like vSAN Max, which offers flexible storage capacity and decouples it from computing resources. NSX+ appears to simplify networking and security management across private and public cloud environments.

Enhancements to VMware Cloud DR and Ransomware Recovery address critical data protection needs. The Edge Cloud Orchestrator looks promising, enabling scalable and secure growth. Tanzu Application Platform aims to streamline app development and delivery.

The concept of an Autonomous Workspace is intriguing – it involves advanced automation driven by AI and machine learning. VMware Private AI offers versatile AI solutions while maintaining data privacy. VMware Intelligent Assist uses AI to streamline IT tasks in multi-cloud settings, building on their existing Cross-Cloud Services.

Learning

After the general session, I took part in an interesting learning session showing another way of performing DRaaS operations.

  • Deliver DRaaS with VMware Cloud Director Availability [CEIB2294LV]

An excellent session showcasing the disaster recovery and migration capabilities using VMware Cloud Director Availability. The session demonstrated the implementation of VMware Cloud Director Availability and illustrated its operational functions. For me, this was a highly valuable session that highlighted new tools and opportunities for DRaaS clients.

VMware Communities Party

The day ended with a fantastic VMware community party. The event was held at the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum where I could play pinball machines, some of which were very old because it’s a museum, but they still worked. A great opportunity to network, hang out with vExperts and members of other communities.
